No Pull Harness:
So you probably ended up here because you have a dog that pulls, you heard about anti pull harnesses and now you're wondering, what's the best harness for dogs that pull?
Well you're in the right place because we will answer all of those questions right here, right now!
What Is A No Pull Harness?
A no-pull dog harness is a type of harness designed to discourage dogs from pulling while walking on a leash. Unlike traditional collars or harnesses that attach the leash to the back, a no-pull harness typically has a front clip attachment point located on the dog's chest. This design redirects the dogās momentum back toward you when they try to pull, making it easier to control and train them to walk calmly.
The good thing is, this result is immediate. Although naturally the behaviour won't change instantly, they simply won't be able to pull you without being redirected. However, paired with proper training, it can absolutely help to train this behaviour out of your dog, and the first step is to teach them that pulling doesn't work. Then you could pair this by rewarding your dog for calmly walking beside you, and soon enough they should learn that walking with you is positive and pulling is not.
Front Clip Harnesses:

A front clip harness is one with a ring / lead attachment point on the chest piece like our Snootiful Hound harness, and how it works is very simple, but it's easier to explain if we look at how a normal harness works first.
With a normal harness, the attachment is on the back, so when you pull on the lead, or your dog pulls forwards, the force applied to the dog is pulling straight back. This is easy for a dog to pull against.
However, when the lead is attached to the front, the lead comes around from the side, so the pulling force redirects sideways. Instead of pulling forwards, the tension on the lead pulls the dog to the side which gives them nothing to pull against. Rather than having a tug of war, they are simply redirected.
Imagine you have a neck tie on, or a scarf, and you try to run forwards whilst someone is holding it - you can't. You would just pull in circles, and this works exactly the same way.
It's worth adding that this is all very gentle and safe on the dog as it doesn't apply any force to the neck or anything like that, but it is very effective!
How to use the no pull harness:
We've covered how it works, but now let's detail exactly to use it. It's incredibly simple, you just attach a lead to the front clip and that is literally it.
However, the best no pull harnesses have a front clip and a back clip, you can pair it with a double ended lead for more control and versatility.Ā
In this case, you attach one end of the lead to the front and one end of the lead to the back and increase or decrease control as needed. It's also great for training so you can begin to be less reliant on the front clip as your dog learns to stop pulling, but still have that function available as soon as you need it, for example, if your dog sees a squirrel they want to chase.
